CONDITIONS FOR ZABIHAH HALAL SLAUGHTERING

The animal to be slaughtered must be from the categories that are permitted for Muslims to eat.

The animal or the bird must by alive, healthy and well fed.
-
Any Injured or bruised animal should not be slaughtered.
-
Water should be offered to the animal before slaughter.
-
If the animal is hungry it should not be slaughtered.
-
The animal's or bird's face should face the Qibla.
-
For the animal to be slaughtered as Zabihah halal it should not be stunned EVER.

The animal must be slaughtered by the use of a sharp knife. The knife must not kill due to its weight. If it kills due to the impact the meat may not be permissible.

The animal should be killed by a cut to its throat.

The windpipe (throat), food-tract (oesophagus) and the two jugular veins must be cut.

The slaughtering must be done in one stroke without lifting the knife.

It is very important to treat animals and birds humanely and reduce pain and suffering to animals during slaughtering.Therefore, the knife should not be placed and lifted when slaughtering the animal.

During the slaughtering process, a a trained Muslim slaughterer will recite a dedication, know as tasmiya “In the name of God – God is the Greatest/Bismillah Allah Hu Akbar”.

All blood should be drained from the carcass.

The animal's carcass should be moved to the skinning process ONLY if completely dead.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE NO ANIMAL OR BIRD IS SLAUGHTERD INFRONT OF OTHER LIVE ANIMALS OR BIRDS.

SLAUGHTERMAN RESPONSIBILTIES

The slaughter person must be a Muslim.
-
He must be trained with knowledge of animal welfare to cause no pain or suffering to the animal.

Prior slaughter man should make sure his face and the animal face is toward the Qibla
-
The MUSLIM butcher must be healthy and strong enough to assume the responsibilities associated with the task of slaughter.​

The knife should cut through the skin, trachea, esophagus, and two major blood vessels swiftly to ensure thorough and quick bleeding of the animal. The spinal cord of an animal/bird should not be severed during slaughtering.

There should be adequate time for bleeding of an animal/bird until it dies before scalding and evisceration.

In Short, for an animal to go from farm to table as halal food, it must have lived a healthy life from the very beginning, It must be kept well, fed well, treated well, and been sacrificed well in accordance with the principle of Islamic guidelines.
